   I think he’s just feeling sorry for himself. Not actually sorry for anything, just “the world is picking on me.”

   (Though my first thought was “Gill’s dad is doing this for audience sympathy” before realizing he wouldn’t know there’s an audience. I need coffee.)

   I agree Laridian. you don’t know why he’s doing this. I would bet that it’s not because of the impact his actions would have on his son, more likely oh god I’m going to prison!
   Maybe even thinking ‘I’m going to prison because of that ‘Fag Bookworm’ son of mine’?

   I feel for the guy. He’s an idiot and there has to be a consequence for what he did, but I still feel sorry for him.

   I see the three panels as a definite evolution ….

   The first … a moment of realization of where he is and what it means
   The second …regret.
   The third … despair

   He’s violent, he’s bigoted towards gay people, he can’t manage his life or relationships but still, he loves his son and Gill loves him too. I keep thinking back to the strip where Gill and his Dad ordered Chinese food. It’s “memories”like that which make me feel bad for the guy.

   Great writing and artwork Norm.

   OK … back to work for me.
