Cosmo, was one of the strip ideas I submitted to the syndicates before Retail was picked up. The strip was about an urban bohemian named Cosmo, his girlfriend Macy, and his wacky best friend Ned. Here’s a couple of samples:
At the time, Jay Kennedy (then Editor-In-Chief at King Features) remarked in a letter that while he loved the art in Cosmo, he didn’t think the concept was engaging enough to sell to newspapers. It was in this same letter that he suggested I revisit my Retail concept. Without Cosmo there may have never been a Retail. Funny how things work out.
When putting together a comic strip package to a syndicate, a cartoonist traditionally includes a character sheet along with their samples and cover letter. Here’s the one I sent in with Cosmo.
