“… Anyway, the reason I write is that I look for ‘cash office’ type humor in your strip and cut out those that fit for us. Recently you had one about a cashier taking foreign coins and even a bus token. I cut it out and taped it to the shelf at work, making the comment that no cashier would be that stupid. Karma rules!
Not a week later, a bus token showed up in our bags! I had to tape it to the cartoon. Such foresight …”
A fan e-mailed me recently with this picture and note:
Yeah, I wish I could say that this strip was some kind of fantastic hyperbole on my part, but during my retail career I came across more than a few bus tokens in the various registers I’ve overseen. I’ll never figure out how they get accepted as currency. Did the cashier think it was a new commemorative coin meant to celebrate our transit system? I mean, there’s a picture of a subway car on it.
On the other hand, I’d hate to think that I’m somehow creating this reality for people who haven’t experienced it before now. Maybe I’m like that painter guy from “Heros” and everything I draw will come true.
Hmm, maybe I should do a strip about a cartoonist who wins a Ferrari just to see.
