Gill was a comic strip that ran on the home page of this site from November 2008 to December 2009. It took a humorous look at the life of an 8-year-old boy who lives under less than ideal circumstances. His parents were divorced. His mother struggled to maintain their meager existence. His estranged father floated in and out of his life to offer crude and confusing advice. Gill was an exploration of childhood and an imperfect American family in all its dysfunctional glory.

The Characters
Gill
Gill is a quirky and inquisitive 8-year-old who lives in an apartment with his loving mother. Despite being overweight, dirt poor, and regularly confused by the dubious wisdom of his estranged father, Gill usually manages to sort things out and keep his sense of wonder about the world.
Mom
Gill’s mother struggles to provide for her son with little help from her bum of an ex-husband. Like most children, Gill doesn’t always appreciate her efforts and sacrifice, but she loves him dearly and manages to keep a roof over their heads despite their disadvantages.
Dad
Gill’s dad means well, but fails miserably in comparison to the sage father figures normally found on the comic pages. While he does occasionally offer up a modicum of useful advice for Gill’s consumption, he mostly serves as an example of bad habits, prejudices and outdated ideas.
Shandra
Shandra is Gill’s neighbor and best friend. Gill doesn’t always say the brightest things, but Shandra loves him like a big brother anyway. The two are inseparable.
