I’m happy to finally share some big news I’ve been sitting on for over a year. I will be launching a second comic strip through King Features in 2012, and that second comic strip is GIL.

For those of you unfamiliar, GIL was a rejected syndicate submission that I turned into a web-comic in 2008. Despite it being a very personal and rewarding strip that was very well received by its online audience, I pulled the plug on it in 2009 to focus on other projects. I decided to resubmit it for syndication in 2010 using the best of the strips I developed on the web as samples, and well … the planets aligned, and I was offered a contract.

I’ve been developing GIL with King Features since last December, and it is now slated to launch in January of 2012. It’s been a long road, but I’m absolutely thrilled to finally have the opportunity to share GIL through syndication.

Speaking of which, my editor Brendan Burford had the great idea to launch a blog where he and I talk about GIL’s development process, as well as the syndication process in general. Check it out at www.gilcomics.com. If you’ve ever wondered how a comic strip gets all the way from submission to syndication, this is going to be a one-of-a-kind peek behind the curtain, so don’t miss it!

Brendan and I will be blogging about the process weekly right up until GIL launches.  We kicked it all off with a podcast interview hosted by silver-voiced comics aficionado, Tom Racine from Tall Tale Features, and Geek Papas!

I started using Instagram to share photos about a week ago. I fell in love with it pretty quickly, because it’s social networking that I can actually find time for. I’ve been using it to share snippets of my daily life, glimpses into my sketchbook, and other images I find interesting.

I just listed the original artwork for the very first “Retail” comic strip ever published on eBay. The original measures 19″ x 24″ and was designed in a “poster” format.  It was used as both the first “Retail” comic ever published, and the cover art for the sales brochure King Features uses to sell the strip to newspapers.
